Fuel Tax Blocked
Hello there, Trucking Nation! Last week, we told you about measures to increase fuel taxes throughout the country. One effort, proposed by two U.S. Senators, would have raised fuel taxes at the federal level. The Senators wanted to phase in 4 cent tax hikes every year for 4 years and then have yearly increases adjusted for inflation after that.
Fuel Tax Hike Proposal Blocked from Vote
U.S. Congressman Earl Blumenauer introduced legislation in the House of Representatives to raise the national fuel tax 15 cents per gallon. Fortunately, the proposal, which was an amendment to a pending national highway bill, was blocked from coming to the House floor for a vote. This means fuel taxes won’t be going up, at least in the near future.
