It’s Time to File Your 2nd Quarter IFTA Return!

Well folks, the second quarter is officially in the books, and it’s time to start filing those dreaded IFTA returns. Luckily for you, ExpressIFTA allows you to create a return online in minutes with just a few simple steps so you can get back to trucking.

Here’s everything you need to do to file your IFTA return with ExpressIFTA, and don’t worry, you wont need a calculator. Just put in your information and we’ll crunch all the numbers for you!

How to File

Sign in or Set up Your Account: The first step to filing your IFTA tax return with the industry leader is to sign-up for an account with us if you haven’t already done so. You can create an account in seconds by entering our website and selecting “new user.” Then you’ll just have to enter some basic business information, your base jurisdiction, and IFTA license number.

If you use ExpressTruckTax to file your Form 2290, then you won’t have to create an ExpressIFTA account. Simply log-in to your ExpressTruckTax account, and select the IFTA tab at the top of the page. You will then be prompted to set your units of measurement for your distance traveled and fuel purchased, (e.g. miles/kilometers, gallons/liters) and your truck information.

Enter Mileage Traveled and Fuel Purchased: Next you will have to enter the mileage traveled and the amount of fuel purchased during the quarter. You can enter your fuel and mileage information manually, through an Excel file, or upload it directly from your GPS system.

If you have records of your trips and enter your information manually, all you will need to enter is the state, odometer reading, and the amount of fuel purchased for each trip.

Once your information is entered, ExpressIFTA will automatically calculate the amount of tax due based on the data you entered.

Generate and Transmit Your Return: This is the very last step, and the system will automatically run a diagnostic report to review your return for any errors based on the estimated miles per gallon. Now, clearing this audit check doesn’t necessarily guarantee that your return will be accepted, but it can find basic errors that you may have overlooked. Once you have entered your information and completed your return, simply follow the instructions to send to return to your base jurisdiction.

If you have any questions at all about your IFTA return don’t hesitate to give us a call at 704.234.6005 or email us at, and our locally-based support team will be happy to assist you.
