What Information Is Needed To File An IFTA Return?

If you haven’t filed your 3rd Quarter IFTA yet, the deadline is this Friday! Before you start to get all frantic and stressed out, let’s take a moment to assess the situation. First thing, breathe. I’m going to walk you through everything you need before you file; you’re not in this alone.

One of the things you need to file is your mileage log.

Mileage log is a broad term nowadays that refers to whatever you use to track your mileage. You need your mileage for the months of July, August, and September. If you have already entered your mileage for these months into an Excel spreadsheet, you can easily upload the information into your ExpressIFTA account so you don’t have to double enter the data.

The second needed things are your fuel reciepts.

If you use a fuel card, then you should have digital copies of your reciepts that can be easily imported into your ExpressIFTA account. Some states require a copy of fuel receipts and some dont, that’s the wonderfulness of IFTA filing, it is very state specific. If you are unsure of what is required on your IFTA return, just contact your base jurisdiction.

On fuel reciepts, make sure they have the date, type of fuel, gallons/liters, name and address of seller.
